Man... That was clever.

This game is extremely professional and nothing short of great. The graphics are superb in both style and quality; the gameplay is original and varying; the controls work well; and most importantly, it's fun.

I sure would love to see just how this Mongoid guy made the game. The source code and timelines must display a treasury of accumulated knowledge on his behalf.

Well, if you like, I rant about the game, and I show my production notes on the armorgames production blog. http://www.armorblog.com

Fantastic

This game which Sina and Reza have made: this the sort of game I want to make one day. They've made this platformer compelling, creative, and humorous. Who wouldn't want to play a game that lets you splatter monster butter sticks with chainsaws? I do wish the bosses were shorter, but maybe that's just me.

In the case I get a reply, I don't suppose you guys give online lessons on video game programming, do ya?

Seriously, do ya'll?

sinaiman responds:

Wow, that's quite a nice compliment. We're soon going to publish a "postmortem" about our game, basically detailing everything that occurred during the development process. This will also include a description of programming techniques that I used that you may find useful. This will be put up on our site, www.commonstudios.com, in the "Blog" section.

If you wanna get started doing videogame programming I suggest taking up a popular programming language (Java is nice and simple to start off with, no memory management) and just get comfortable with doing alot of programming. I started game development using c++, but in retrospect it may have been easier on me to have started with java or maybe c# (both manage memory for you). I don't suggest starting with flash, as it's too simplistic and you can get away with doing alot of bad programming, while working with java or c++ or c# will really get you to learn those core programming concepts and later apply these good concepts to flash programming. (But, on the other hand, if you don't wanna take it too seriously flash would be a good place to start just to mess around.) A great site for game development is www.gamedev.net and if you decide to do 3d game programming check out http://nehe.gamedev.net for some great tutorials for using C++ in conjunction with the OpenGL graphics library.

But do check on our site in the coming days as I plan to have a lengthy discussion on the collision detection system which I kinda winged for this game, since I haven't ever done any real programming in flash before.

Until then, good luck on your game creation quest and if you have any questions at all I'd actually like to hear them and help you get started or help you along with anything really (web design, programming, content creation, etc)

Ive been following the progress of this game.

Its coming out great so far! I cant wait to see the finished product! By the way, try this control scheme instead: Z = jump and D jump, A = punch and fire with gun out, X = Change weapon, and the directional keys of course as the moving. It works well.

also, there are some rather hard parts that should be easier such as the blue pad jump over the Dark Eco pit in the ruins. And the collision detection for some of the platforms and pole thingies that jak spins on arent big enough.
If you ever make a 3rd game, keep in mind i would be willing to help! I love the jak and daxter series. (I have gotten something up on newgrounds, but it got blammed. But it was good. they blammed it for points.) You should make jak and daxter games for the PSP!

The-Mercenary responds:

Alright I'll give that control scheme a shot. I already fixed the pole problems for the most part, I can probably fix those problems later, but I'm busy making new levels right now.
